The Best Sermon-That-Wasn't-A-Sermon
Good Friday thoughts from the floor of the Tennessee legislature.
Dear friends,
This is the best Easter message I've heard yet, and I just had to share it with you as a little Easter extra, along with a few thoughts of my own, excerpted from a post I shared on Facebook:
Depending on who you are, friend, you might feel challenged, threatened, upset, awakened, or encouraged by this video clip. And to all my friends who will take exception to Jesus being non-white, I remind you that Jesus was, indeed, not white, neither was he of the mainstream, or the middle-class-- if Jesus were alive today, consider that he would be born to the immigrant family, into poverty, into a family which was looked down upon so much it was not usually even seen or noticed, and that his every word and action would threaten any and all institutions which claimed they held the power, the answers, "the way." If you ground the gospel narrative in its raw timeline, Jesus was killed because he disrupted the narrative of the powerful. Think about Jesus in our society, today. Consider the fact that Jesus wasn't even a Christian (think about this before you take it up with me), friends, and consider which side of the cross you're standing on in light of what's happening to the least of these, the poor and the marginalized, today.
Blessings, and hope y’all have a wonderful weekend.
