hi friends,
it’s been a while, i know. if you’ve stuck around, i’m happy to say i’m back and ready to keep thinking aloud, i mean, cough cough, writing.
stay tuned for more content soon, but while you’re waiting, here are some quick thoughts:
rest is good. creativity doesn’t grow in a vacuum. rest is its soil.
when you are the most frazzled and swamped and overwhelmed, make time for some sort of therapy, the kind that works for you. it’ll be worth it, trust me. reflection will help you grow under any circumstance and life is wisdom’s fodder.
don’t turn off your feelings. if you grew up being told your emotions made you weak, tell that idea to fuck off. you are your strongest self when you bring your whole self with you everwhere.
shame isn’t something to be ashamed of. when you feel the need to hide, about-face.
queerness is a whole thing. it’s not just an orientation, it’s a state of mind. it’s poetry, a fresh window to the plural, multi-colored divine.
i’m queer, as it turns out. pansexual. it’s a thing i’ve known my whole life, yet only recently discovered. it’s dramatic and centering at the same time. got questions? don’t ask. (just so you know, i’m saying this with a wink and a sparkle in my eye— i’m not ready to get into all the nuances of what this means yet, though, because i’m only just now getting into it with myself) i do think, however, that anyone who’s working with people communally needs to explore their sexuality— it’s in hidden spaces that toxic things grow.
if you’re family of origin wasn’t great, if shit happened to you growing up, you don’t have to hide things for the sake of your parental unit. they are grownups, and they can put on their big-boy pants and handle it. you don’t have to cover for them or carry their shame. hopefully if you start disclosing stuff, they’ll go ahead and get therapy.
i like this song right now…
…and i’m not exactly sure why. i think it’s because of this verse though:
Till the point that you realize none of it matters much
For the minutes we have on this planet we're seeking love
And that's more than enough
Call it what you want
Call it God, call it your freedom
That connection between living beings is a powerful thing
And that's real to us
or maybe this line:
Now the crow's feet are crawling all over my face
Every time that I smile
What you know about being decapitated
While your body still rolls around aimlessly?
or maybe it’s just cause i really like its sick beat and surprising twists and turns. i don’t know, and it doesn’t matter really. i just like it.
and hey. speaking of twists and turns, i’m pretty sure that’s the path Divine Love flows on if you’re open to finding it. just like Mother Mary. or Elizabeth. or Mary Oliver and Maya Angelou.
okay that’s it for now. thanks for listening, friend.
talk soon,
Carissa
