Welcome!
Prisma is short for prismatic.
It is a reminder that everything is more than it seems, and that visual limitations have more to do with the see-er than with the image itself.
Richard Rohr once said, “God is always bigger than the boxes we build for God, so we should not waste too much time protecting the boxes.”
In this day and age— and dare I naively suggest throughout history?— as we wrestle with current events and our religious beliefs, we can become kinda rigid, like a train following only one track. While sticking to the same route can be comforting in some ways, it doesn’t make room for change or growth.
This newsletter is my attempt to help you see the same ol’, same ol’ in new, unique, and surprising ways because, let’s face it, what we believe— about our stories, our theology, and the world around us— affects how we live.
A little about me.
I’m a mother to a cancer survivor, a third-culture-kid, a former fundamentalist Christian, a queer fattie in a het-cis marriage (yes, that’s a thing), and a seminary student working on an M.Div. degree. I bring all of that into this space.
What readers can expect from me.
On my substack, you can expect cultural critique through a theological lens. Why? I believe that unless Christian theology addresses [in]justice for the marginalized, it is empty.
On the flip side, you can expect deep introspection; from my lived experience, our inner world is the place where seeds of liberation are planted.
Tuning into our what our bodies are saying and exploring our thoughts, ideas, and feelings is how we learn to embody life that is truly good for us and the planet. I think Jesus did this, and I think we should too. I’d like to talk about why.
Finally, on this stack I’ll be asking bold— and sometimes taboo— questions about what a more expansive Christianity might be.

If you’re looking for a pastoral voice speaking to the churched and unchurched for this day and time, this stack is written with you in mind.
